I am a geoscientist who works at the intersection of structural geology, geomorphology, and Quaternary geology to examine geologic processes recorded in the landscape and shallow subsurface, including prehistoric earthquakes, active fault system behavior, and critical zone processes. Some of my major research efforts include, 1) active fault mapping and paleoseismic investigations extending 500 km along the north side of the Alaska Range, including studies on Denali, the Denali fault, and numerous active thrust faults, 2) work on active fault systems in western Nepal, 3) targeted studies of active faults in the western US, including the southern San Andreas fault, 4) critical zone studies, specifically examining factors controlling critical zone evolution on bedrock surfaces.

As part of my role as a research professor in the Department of Geosciences, I serve as Field Operations Lab Manager, where I oversee departmental geophysical and surveying instrumentation, support and collaborate on field investigations, and train and support students in data collection and processing.
