Water
Student and faculty researchers in the Department of Geosciences at Virginia Tech perform integrative, cross-disciplinary research in a wide range of geological fluid systems. We combine field, laboratory, and computational methods to understand fundamental linkages between the thermal, hydraulic, chemical, and mechanical processes that drive fluids throughout the Earth system, and we apply this knowledge to understand geologic processes and hazards from nano- to continental-scales. In pursuing this research, we seek fundamental discoveries to drive innovation and sustainability in water, energy, and mineral resource management, as well as societal resilience arising from natural and anthropogenic hazards associated with Earth’s geological fluid systems.
