Geosciences Camp
The Geosciences Camp is a two-day program held on July 22-23, 2025 and designed to engage middle school students (rising 6th, 7th and 8th graders) with a burgeoning interest in science. The primary goal is to offer an opportunity for local, Virginian students to be exposed to the field of geosciences. Specifically, the main themes of this camp would range from Geology, Geochemistry, Geophysics, Geobiology and Paleobiology, and Environmental and Engineering Geosciences through an overnight two-day activity camp (Tuesday morning to Wednesday afternoon). The activities may include but are not limited to a geocaching event, fossil examination and preparation, rock identification instructional, delta table experiments, interaction and explanation of GPS, and the use of maps, remote sensing, and geophysical technology for predicting and preventing hazardous events. This camp will thus showcase the many ways geosciences help address critical earth science challenges through engaging activities that highlight essential geoscience tools, skills, and future career opportunities.
