GeoClub

The Department of Geosciences' “GeoClub” is run by our undergraduate students. They organize field trips, outreach events, and other activities.

Geosciences Student Research Symposium

This event showcases the research activities conducted by the undergraduate and gradaute students in our department and provides an opportunity to develop presentation skills in a friendly environment.

Black Students in STEM at VT (BSS)

This student organization's role is to help promote and strengthen the black community in the STEM fields at Virginia Tech.

This international honor society of science and engineering has a distinguished history of service to science and society for more than 125 years.

Professional Societies

There are numerous professional societies in the geosciences and most of them have membership dues that are significantly discounted (or free) for students. Some of the societies have student chapters that are run by and for the benefit of students.

American Geophysical Union

AGU’s mission is to promote discovery in Earth and space science and hosts the largest single Earth and planetary science conference in the world every December. Student memberships are $20/year.

Geological Society of America

GSA is the premier geological society supporting the global community in scientific discovery, communication, and application of geoscience knowledge. Student memberships are $40/year.
