Earth History and Environments
The Virginia Tech Department of Geosciences is conducting fundamental research on the relationship of life and environmental conditions through Earth history. This research taps into our planet’s sedimentary archives to answer questions about how life responded to and recovered from environmental change. Multiple research groups are doing work aimed at reconstructing Earth surface environments and examining how physical, chemical, and biological processes relate to the Earth's climate and oceans. This area of research provides important context for present-day global change and for the change that is predicted to occur in the decades and centuries to come.
